Planning: Preliminary Task

The Purpose Of The Preliminary Task:
What the preliminary task is to learn how to operate and be able to use the camera. During the preliminary task we have experimented with the camera, we have played around the camera and trying to use the different sizes, angles and the movement of the camera. Also to identify the people for the different group roles. With doing the preliminary task that we have done is to help use gain some understanding of how we can film the footage, and the experience of filming the footage for our own thriller.

The Scenario:
Our narrative is that there are two friends that are walking to their destination, and then they bump into each other, and they have a quick conversation... then they both go there separate ways as they need to get to their destination quick.

Group Roles:
Darhyl - Camera Man/Editor
Sandro - Actor/Editor
Sean - Director/Actor
Kloe - Location Manager

Difficulties whilst filming:
Whilst we was filming we had some difficulties at where we could film from, and also the camera angles to use. Also where we decided to film there was someone in the background that we didn't want but when we filmed it at first we didn't like it. Also when we first started to film, the location of where we wanted to film there was a lot of people that was in a class that was in the way.

Difficulties whilst editing:
As me and Sandro was editing we came to the first problem, that the footage of the task has been too long, so what we had to do is cut out some of the footage, but when we started to edited the dialogue that we had to cut because of the maximum length of time we need.
Also when we had to cut the footage it was hard because of the framing of the character sometimes that the subject did'nt stay in the centre of the screen.

What have I Learnt:

What i have learnt is that when it comes to the actually time to film, the ideas of camera angles, size and movement become more clear and sometimes you have to change it because it could look better.

Planning: Production Roles

Production Roles:
Production roles are the roles that the people have during the production of the film, there are 7 different roles in the production of the film.

Camera Operator:
What the camera operator is the person that takes the footage of the film, the camera operator works with the storyboard manager to get the correct camera shots, angles and movements in order to get the correct emotional feelings that the director wants from the audience when watching the film.

Producer:
This is the person that will manage all of the budgets within the making of the film. Also as the producer this is also the main person that works alongside with the director to gives ideas of what could happen but he only can give ideas towards the creation of the film.

Director:
This is the person will over see the whole creation of the film, he/she is in charge of everything that happens. Throughout this whole creation of the film the producers will give ideas of what they want for the film and if the director will like it he will use it but any choice that will be made will be by him as he is the person that has the ultimate say.

Actor/s:
With being an actor, this is the person that will be acting a certain role within the film. This role is important because you will need a actor to act in the film, and there are different types of acting roles.

Story boarder:
This is the person that will put the narrative into a graphic pictures, what the story boarder does is create the illustrating images that are in a order to tell the narrative. Also what this role does is the person has to think of the camera size, angles and movement as the camera man will work with the story boarder to get the idea of what to take when shooting the film.

Hair, Make Up & Costume:
The person that does all the hair and make up for the character, will be important because they are in charge of what the actors will look like, also the costume for the film is decided as well because it will have to go with the stereotypes that the film might use of the character or not. But the costume is important because this is what the actor will wear for the film.

Editor:
Editing Manager gets the footage of the film, and edits the scene to create the effect upon the audience. The editor will work with the camera operator and the sound technician in order to to create the scenes and shots director would want without making the audience confused at what they are watching.

Sound Technician:
This is the person that will create the sound in each of the scenes. The story boarder will also work with the sound technician as they will help decide on what types of sounds that they will use in each scene. As the sound technician is creating the sound for the film this person will make the sound effective towards the audience, and the thriller genre.

Roles Within The Group:

Sean -
We picked Sean to be the director because he comes up with most of the ideas and has the best image of how the thriller is going to come out, also since he is director. We also have him for the sound and editing because he will have a more of an understand of what to do, with the sound and edits, also he is the story board manager which makes the idea for all the camera angles ETC. Furthermore he is also acting within the thriller is is great because we don't have to rely on an external person to act for us, this is good because since he is with us filming he is acting for the thriller.

Darhyl -
As everybody has picked me to be the producer of the thriller because i come up with some ideas and past it on to Sean the director which makes the final decision, and since i will work by the side of the director i am also the camera man. This works well because his is the director and the story board manager which allows me the camera operator to have a better idea of what the director would want. Also as i am the camera man i am in charge of the lighting to because i would have the best understand of the types of light to use and where it is needed.

Sandro -
We picked Sandro as another actor to be in thriller, for the same reason as Sean its best to rely on the people that your working with. Also he is the location manager of where we will shot all the footage of the thriller and he will also help edit the footage for the thriller.

Kloe -
Kloe has been picked to be the sound technician as she has done music before and can understand the concept that we have for the thriller and can create the sounds for the thriller along side with the director. Also as she has some understanding with hair, make up and costume we have picked her to be in charge of this because she will know what the characters would have to wear and will do the make up for the actors.

Conclusion -
As we as a group have learnt the definitions of the roles within the production, this helped us understand where we as a group can use our abilities to the best we can within the group to make this thriller come out the best it can.
Since we all have been asigined roles within the group this helps us understand where we stand and we have to do the jobs of that role in the production of the thriller.

Planning: Opening Scene Narration

This scene starts with a picture of a couple, then the camera slowly zooms out showing more images of the female in the image, events and words that symbolise the obsession with the female (love, jealousy ETC). As it zooms out you see a silhouette of the antagonist standing, and looking at the storyboard. The there would be a fade to black into the female getting ready to go out. As the scene Carry's on a straight cut into where there are three boys that are hanging out, but one of them. You can see that he his texting his girlfriend. The the friend of the boyfriend asks if his alright...

Then there would be a straight cut into the the female leaving her house but the camera would be in deep focus on the phone because the boyfriends text would come up as the female leaves the house in the background. As the scene develops you see the female victim arrives at the house party, once see is partying you see that see is rapidly getting drunk and dancing while the audience will see the antagonist from a low angle tilt shot in the corner of the room, as the strobe lights flickers from the antagonist to the victim  few times. As the female victim leaves the party she decides to walk through the dark and desolated park, as the female victim walks camera capture a long shot view where you see that there is another person behind her... Which is the antagonist following from the party. Also there is more shots where the camera is on the floor and you see the two characters walks past it, also from the long shot you see the female walks closer to the camera. As you see the female about to fall the antagonist catches her before the hard fall but then see gets kidnapped by him, but as he tries to kidnap her she struggles to get out...

Towards the end of the scene, you as an audience have a point of view of the female when there is a bag that comes off her head with a strong blinding light, but then dims down into low key lighting. Then you see the antagonist revel himself and the victim is shown in a unknown location of where she is, as the camera cuts to the antagonist walking towards her, you see a panning shot of the camera showing all of the power tools and knife ETC on a table, with some of the victims clothing, also sees some plastic sleeves, once the antagonist get close to her he starts touching her and cutting her nails and he uses the plastic sleeves to take strand of her hair that he has taken, some of her nail clipping and all of these weird things... As you see the antagonist enjoying this you see a quick flash of an image with the female victim with the boyfriend as the antagonist is in the background of the image, which triggers the antagonist to to change his intentions of what he was going to do with her...
As the antagonist is showing to be going crazy and messes up everything around him, throwing tools falling and slapping himself ETC, you see a close up of his face with the intention to kill her, then the audience are left with the image of her knocked out on a chair with a shovel that goes into the ground. With the audience left think is the female going to be burried dead or alive....

Planning: Final Ideas

We as a group decide that would like to have an antagonist that is obsessed with something or someone, but in out thriller we decide it should be a person. Also another thing that we decided that we wanted in our thriller is kidnapping as it can lead to the torture that one of the group members thought of.

Our Title of The Thriller: He Knows Your Alone

Narrative/Plot:

The opening of the thriller will show the female victim in a picture then the camera starts to zooms out and shows a storyboard of the female victim with friends family ETC, as it zooms out the antagonist will be shown in the middle of the camera as a silhouette. To create the tension towards the audience, as the audience see the first character in the thriller…

Then there will be a male character that is texting his girlfriend to not go to the party as he doesn’t feel its right, while he is at his friend’s house playing games and relaxing. As the female victim receives the text she doesn’t see the text and at the same time the antagonist will get a text that there is a house party that is going on.

So the female arrives to the house party with her friends, and the people at the party is partying, and everyone there is clueless that there is a person standing in the corner fully in black. As the female victim is partying the antagonist is watching over her. Then the female’s friends leave her as she is so drunk and they don’t want to help her get home. As the female victim is walking home see decides to take the short cut home but that short cut could cost her… As she walks though the park as a short cut this is when the antagonist’s perfect time to kidnap her as there is nobody to see what is happing. As the antagonist kidnaps her she drops the vodka bottle and all her stuff, and she struggles to get away but…

The antagonist makes her fall asleep, and brings her to a hidden mysterious area. As she wakes up all she can see is a persons shadow and tools weapons, some of her clothes… as she can see he is obsessed with her sexual and mentally as he as some problems with him. As the antagonist starts to walk towards her and startrs to touch her and he starts to enjoy this, then he starts to have certain images of her and the boyfriend that took her away from him, which triggers him to changes is mind and intent to kill her instead… So he starts to dig a grave for her….

Narrative Structure: Aristotle

Characters: Female Character, Male Close Friend, Antagonist and Boyfriend

Mise En Scene:

Location: Friends House, House Party, Park And Isolated Area

Lighting: Natural, Low-Key And Red Lightiing

Costume:

Female Victim: Revelling Clothing Or Party Wear

Boyfriend: Casual, Jeans, Jumper/T-shirt And Jacket

Antagonist: Black Everything

Fasle Antagonist/Close Friend: Casual, Jumper/T-shirt, Jeans And Jacket

Film Influences:

Scream that influences our idea of death

Hawaii Five-O (Halloween Episode) This Gave uses the idea of the party scene where the antagonist is in the corner at the party.

Cruel Intentions gave use the idea of the obsession of the antagonist

Grotesque gave us as a group the idea of the torture scene with all the power tools.

Why is the opening conventional to a thriller?

Our opening is conventional to a thriller because we show the female victim straight away in the storyboard and then you see a silhouette which is shown as the antagonist, this is conventional because the audience will know two characters in the first 30 seconds, the audience will get the idea of who the victim is and the antagonist because the storyboard shows that the antagonist is stalking this victim for a long time.

What themes does our thriller present?

Our thriller presents three themes in the narrative of the story, they are; torture, death, obsession and kidnap. As seen in the narrative of the story, in the beginning of the thriller we show the obsession of the antagonist with the female. Then the torture of the female is shown in the torture seen after he kidnaps her from the park, as he tortures her he becomes unstable and then we show his intention has changed and it has changed to kill her instead.

What response will you get from your audience?

The response that I am aiming to get from the audience is to feel scared so that they have the shocked feeling with the story, also I want the audience to want to know what is going to happen next so they have ore interest in the thriller. Furthermore after they have watched the thriller would like them to feel paranoid because I want the thriller to show some realism so show that this could actually happen in real life. As the paranoia will effect the audience it allows them to talk more about what they have watched to other people.

Research Opening Credits/Typography

What Is An Opening Credits?
Opening credits are shown in the beginning of the film. This is done to show to the audience the most important members of the production of the film, E.G. Famous Actors/Actors and crew members.

Purpose Of Opening Credits
- Credit to the people who took part
- Advertisement
- Show the major actors/ crew members
- Show how it has been directed/produced by

What Information Does Opening Credits Do?
Opening credits are for the audience to know who the major actors and the crew members in the production of the film. For example, production company, soundtrack creator, editor, director or producer(s). Also when making a film if there is a person that has died while making or being part of the production of the film they are honoured through opening credits.

What Do You Expect In The Opening Credits?
The opening credits attract some of the audience because of who stars in the film of being an actor/actress. For example, Tom Cruise.
What the audience should expect in the opening credits is the all the names of the important people that took major roles in making the film/crew members.

How Does It Make The Audience Feel?
The opening credits in films are effective because when you see the opening credits it is followed with a soundtrack, with doing this it allows the opening credits to create tension towards the audience.

Typography
What typography is when it describes the type of font that is used also the colour and size of it.

This type of font can be used in the opening credits because this shows the audience the darkness and mysteriousness that could be in the film because of the font is rubbed our very little on the letters. Doing this will create suspense among the audience because of the mystery which makes the audience question why they have used this font.

This typography in the movie se7en you can see that the font is capitals and there is blood on it, with the number seven fading, the font is like the stencil. The blood and the typography allows the audience to think straight away why is there blood also the font makes the audience wonder about the movie. Using this typography and the blood effect it builds suspense within the audience.

With this typography it is the font 'arial' this font is not the best to use as because you would think it would create tension, but the way that this has been use with the title of the movie creates tension, as you can see the colour is just black it can represent the darkness and all the bad that happen in the movie and this allows the audience to become more intrigue with the movie.

Overall the research of opening credits and typography has helped because it allows me to know the conventional thriller genre fonts to use. Also the research of opening credits has helped me understand of how to use the opening credits and how it will affect the audience.

In My Thriller:
With my thriller he opening comes in with a fade of the title, then it fades into black to show an image of the couple in thriller, as the camera zooms out you see that it is a storyboard of this subject, as it zooms out it the credits of the people that produce the thriller. My aim towards the audience is to make the audience think of what is going to happen straight away with the title and its typography, also using a different font in the opening credits that will help create suspense in the opening of the thriller.
