Planning: Cinematography

The cinematography that i plan to use in my thriller are all from the research that i have done, as i have learnt what the conventional camera angles, sizes and movement can do in a thriller scene/movie. This research has helped me plan the cinematography in my thriller to make it conventional to the genre.

1 - Zoom Shot, this is evident to show the antagonist's storyboard in detail. With having the story board shown the audience can see what images and text that the antagonist has on the board as the camera will zoom out to show the antagonist standing and looking at the board. We have shown this in the beginning to show the audience that there is a unknown person stalking a female victim.

2 - Deep focus, this camera shot is shown when the female victim leaves the house and forgets her phone. The phone is shown towards the audience in deep focus which allows the audience to clearly read the text, while they see the victim leave the house in the background as a blur. We have done this to show that the iconography of the phone text is important as it indicates that something bad might happen to the female, and this shows information to the audience that the female character doesn't know.

3 - Panning shot, this is evident when the female character and her friend's arrive at the party. We  have shown this because this is where the sequences of bad events start to happen, towards the female victim as she is at her most vulnerable moment in the thriller.

4 - High angle, point of view, this is shown at the party scene when the antagonist is watching over the female victim. And the audience is shown the vulnerability of the victim at a high angle camera shot from the antagonist's point of view as he is a tall and scary person.

5 - Long shot, when the audience see the victim leave the party she walks through a park and the antagonist follow her. The long shot is evident at the park scene as it shows the female victim being followed by the antagonist at a far distance. We have done this because in the park it is deserted at night with no body else around, which the long shot shows and also to show the distance the antagonist gains slowly when walking behind the victim.

6 - Reaction shot, when the female is at an unknown location after she has been kidnapped from the park, the audience see the female tied up and covered with a bag. Once the bag has been taken off you see that the antagonist reveals his identity to the audience and the female victim's reaction is caught when the camera captures the reaction shot of her. We have done this to show the audience the reaction of the victim while at the same time revealing how the antagonist really is.

7 - Medium shot, this is evident when the antagonist is torturing the victim, and the camera is behind the antagonist which creates a silhouette as the light source is directed towards the antagonist which creates this effect. We have done this to show to the audience all the darkness that the character has within him, and to allow the audience to become fearful of the antagonist.

  1. -reaction shot for number 6 is editing. State what shot size or angle you will use here to make it part of cinematogrpahy planning
-always relate back to the response you want to achieve from the audience from your cinematogrpahy choice
